Indictment confirmed in the case v. Ivan Ančić

On 8 January 2014, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the Indictment under which the Accused Ivan Ančić is charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians in violation of Article 173(1)(c), (e) and (f) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all in conjunction with Article 180 (1) and (2) and Article 31 of the CC of BIH.

 

The Indictment alleges, among other things, that the Accused Ivan Ančić, in the period from late June 1993 to mid-August 1993, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and armed conflict between the Croatian Defense Council  (HVO) and Army of the Republic of BIH, as a member of III (V) HVO Military Police Battalion,  in the capacity as a warden of Dretelj Camp and at the same time Assistant Commander  of III (V) HVO Military Police Battalion for the South and Commander of Dretelj barracks  had absolute control over the conditions in Dretelj camp which held around 2000 Bosniak civilians from the Municipalities of Stolac, Čapljina, Prozor, Neum, Ljubuški, Mostar and others.  The Indictment further alleges that the Accused Ivan Ančić committed, aided and abetted inhumane treatment, torture, killings, intentional infliction of grave physical and mental pain and suffering, bodily injuries, starvation, looting, forced labor, and a s a superior and responsible person failed to undertake reasonable measures in order to prevent such acts and to punish the perpetrators thereof.
