In accordance with its mandate and Published criteria for admission to the list of advocates admitted to appear before Section I and Section II of the Court of BiH, the Criminal Defence Section (OKO) of the Registry of the Court of BiH is, again in 2008., organizing the Core Training Program covering topics New Criminal Legislation and International Humanitarian Law. The two days core training seminars give an insight into topics relevant for defense of cases before the Court of BiH with an emphasize on war crimes cases. Core Training seminars are being held in Sarajevo and Banja Luka. In February and March, two seminars were successfully completed in Sarajevo:

New Criminal Legislation Seminar 

The Criminal Defense Section has on 21 & 22 February 2008, for the first time this year, organized a CPC seminar. The seminar gathered a lot of excellent lecturers and experts in new criminal legislation including Constitutional Court of BiH and FBiH judges, SIPA and Brčko District Legal Aid Office representatives, as well as FBiH Bar Associations representatives. Lawyers had the opportunity to listen to and participate in the lecturing in regard to retroactivity of Law, evidence, cross examination, principles of fair trial from the ECHR point of view, preliminary hearing and detention, defense investigation and investigators, plea agreement and plea bargaining, protection and support to witnesses as well as introduction to the OKO office and the Registry Office. 

International Humanitarian Law seminar

OKO organized on 6th & 7th March 2008 the International Humanitarian Law Seminar. The IHL seminar is taught together with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The course covers War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity and Genocide as well as other relevant topics such as Command Responsibility, admissibility of ICTY evidence, Joint Criminal Enterprise well as practical defense problems before the Court of BiH.

Same seminars will also be held in Banja Luka: “New Criminal Legislation” seminar on 20 & 21 March and the “International Humanitarian Law” seminar on 10 & 11 April 2008.
