Judgment pronounced in Adnan Ćatić case

Having accepted a guilty plea agreement in the case of Adnan Ćatić, on 25 March 2024 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a Judgment finding the accused Adnan Ćatić guilty of the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d(2), as read with Paragraph 1, all in conjunction with Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Court sentenced the accused to three (3) years of imprisonment, with the period of time the accused spent in pre-trial custody, from 17 November 2023 onwards, being credited towards his sentence of imprisonment.

 

According to the Indictment, on 1 July 2013 the accused Adnan Ćatić flew to Turkiye from the Sarajevo airport, with the intention to reach the war theater in Syria and join the terrorist organization of Jabhat Al-Nusra, which operated in the territory of Syria, whose aim is to destabilize and overthrow the political and constitutional order in Syria. It is also said that the accused had illegally crossed from Turkiye to Syria, where he joined the terrorist organization of Jabhat Al-Nusra, where he underwent military training and became a sniper for the terrorist group, and took part in fights against Syria’s legal army, where he remained until late 2021.

 

In the same case, following the Judgment pronouncement, the Court issues a Decision to remand the accused Adnan Ćatić in continued custody, which under the Decision may last until the accused is committed to serve his prison sentence, but not longer than 9 (nine) months, running from the day when the Trial Judgment was pronounced, i.e. until 25 December 2024.
