A delegation of the Office of the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, led by Special Rapporteur Fionnuala Ní Aoláin visited the Court of BiH today, 19 January 2003, within a visit to the relevant authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The UN delegation was hosted by Judge Minka Kreho, Head of the Criminal Division of the Court of BiH, Judge Mirsad Strika and Denis Podžić, Head of the Legal Department.

Special Rapporteur Fionnuali Ní Aoláin and her delegation were welcomed and informed about the activities of the Court of BiH and its future plans. A special focus was on the war crime and terrorism cases before the Court of BiH for the purpose of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism. It was also stressed that this visit is constructive in terms of further cooperation and practical recommendations with the aim to protect and promote human rights.

At the end of the visit, Special Rapporteur Fionnuala Ní Aoláin conveyed her thanks for the reception, expressed her support to the Court of BiH in its further activities, and pointed to the strong determination in the process of strengthening the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
