Judicial Support Section

The Legal Department provides professional support to Section I for War Crimes, Section II for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption and Appellate Division (Sections I and II) of the Court of BiH. The Legal Department employs national legal advisors and interns and international officers and interns who are assigned to teams that provide support to the panels of judges. Teams for Section I for War Crimes include 3 members: a legal advisor, an intern and an international member – an officer or an intern. Teams for Section II for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption include 2 members: a legal advisor and an intern. The teams provide support to the three-judge panels.

The professional support that these teams provide to the judges includes the following:

  • preparation of cases for trials, 
  • attendance and monitoring of the main trial,
  • assisting judges during their deliberations,
  • drafting all types of decisions, including assistance in verdict drafting,
  • research assistance  on legal issues regarding national and international law.

The assistance to the judges at the main trial consists of, among other things: trial monitoring in the court, making trial notes, following and noting input of the parties during the proceedings, and testimonies of witnesses...

The legal advisor coordinates and supervises the work of interns.

Interns perform their duties within the internship program, and they are especially tasked with research on legal issues, they assist in drafting procedural decisions and if required they monitor main trials.
