Indictment confirmed in the case v. Savo Babić

On 20 July 2012, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the Indictment under which the Accused Savo Babić is charged with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity.

 

The Indictment alleges, among other things, that the Accused Savo Babić, as the Bratunac Military Police Commander, in May 1992 within the widespread and systematic attack targeting non-Serb civilians in the municipality of Bratunac by his acts and omissions ordered, committed and knowingly omitted to prevent and punish the imprisonment and other severe deprivation of liberty committed against persons of non-Serb ethnic background.  The Indictment further alleges that the Accused Savo Babić was appointed the Commander with the task of providing security to  the detention facility in the Vuk Karadžić school building in Bratunac, and monitored and had full control  over the conditions in the camp and lives and bodies of more than 400 non-Serb male civilians who were subjugated to a daily-basis  systematic interrogations, beatings, torture, abuse, humiliation, mental abuse, and lived in a constant fear for their lives while a large number of prisoners were killed or died as a result of such conditions.
